Message from the President

Hello, and welcome! My name is Sylvie Zolezzi and I am honored to be Ross Valley Women’s League’s President this year, following in the footsteps of many amazing women who led this mighty group before me, and working with a team of 28 strong and dedicated women.

2020 marks the 55th anniversary of Ross Valley Women’s League’s service to the Marin Community and 23 years of support of Adopt A Family of Marin. Adopt A Family works tirelessly to fulfill its mission of preventing homelessness and providing a safety net to families in Marin, a mission that, as we all know, has taken on greater than ever urgency this year due to the pandemic.

At the beginning of May, in light of the uncertainty of being able to gather for our annual fundraiser in the fall and the urgent need to raise funds for Adopt A Family, we decided to pivot our fall Gala to our first ever Virtual Live Event on May 28, venturing into unchartered territory.

Our “Night of Virtual Giving” was a smashing success thanks to our Virtual Event team’s diligent efforts and the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors and donors.

We made history, and I am pleased to report that we raised over $280,000, allowing Adopt A Family to cast a wider safety net of support for families in need due to the pandemic.

On behalf of the entire group of Ross Valley Women’s League’s members, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our sponsors and donors, you made a statement and a big difference in the life of many of our struggling neighbors.

Since its inception in 1965, RVWL has tirelessly given back to the community. We initially supported Marin General’s Pediatric Center, then Marin General’s Adolescent Recovery Center and the Cancer Care Center. In 1994, as the hospital wanted more internal control of its fundraising, the group started to focus its support on groups outside of the hospital, including Adopt A Family of Marin.

In 1997, RVWL decided to support Adopt A Family exclusively, and to this day, our group continues to champion Adopt A Family’s mission of preventing homelessness and providing a safety net to families with children in Marin County.

On a typical year, we organize an annual fundraising gala in the fall, and donate 100 percent of the event’s proceeds to Adopt A Family. Many have called it THE party of the year, and we will not argue with that!

It gives us tremendous satisfaction to be able to support local families in need, and to know that what we do affects many people’s daily lives in a meaningful and positive fashion.

No one knows what the future holds, but one thing is certain…Ross Valley Women’s League is deeply committed to continue its support of Adopt A Family of Marin and its mission to prevent homelessness in Marin…whether with a fall in-person Gala or a virtual event…

May we count on your continued support?
