Sherene Chen, Catalog Chair
Sherene spent over a decade in finance working for various investment banks such as Goldman Sachs before starting her own styling business. After earning an MBA from The University of California Berkeley, she started Style by Sherene in 2011 and has since Styled for various photo, video, print work, runway shows and clothing boutiques. She was honored to be the Executive Director for Bloom Marin, formerly Image for success in San Rafael, California for the past two and a half years and is now on Bloom’s board. Bloom is a nonprofit that provides complimentary wardrobes and life skills for men, women and children transitioning to a life of self-reliance.
Sherene serves on the Marin County Women’s Commission and Executive Committee as Vice Chair and former treasurer appointed by District Supervisor Kate Sears. The mission of the Marin Women’s Commission is to represent women and girls and advocate for equality through policy, education, and collaboration. The commission holds a seat on the County’s Equal Employment Advisory Committee and works closely with and is appointed by the county Board of Supervisors to achieve county-wide goals. The commission hosts the annual Marin Teen Girls Conference. She also served on the College of Marin’s EOPS committee that provides services to disadvantaged students. She served as board president of the American Association of University women’s Marin chapter. AAUW has led the fight for fair pay and economic opportunity for women since 1881. She is a member of Marin Charitable, a volunteer program that provides grants to disadvantage school-aged children. Sherene also volunteers as a Godmother for Saint Timothy Murphy’s School at Saint Vincent’s. TMS is a State of California certified, not-for-profit special education school. Students have emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges which cannot be met in traditional school settings. The Godmothers actively the boys at TMS by fundraising and volunteering to help provide a safe, nurturing environment. Sherene lives in Mill Valley with her husband Wilson, their sons Jackson and Harrison, and their dogs Bernie and Addison.
